Gingerbread Cookies

Bree and her cousin Olivia helped me make cookies this past week. They both had so much fun because I let them do almost all of the work. They were giddy with excitment when I pulled out all the frosting and fun stuff to decorate them with, although, I think that both Bree and Olivia ate more frosting with their fingers than ever made it on a cookie.I usually get frustrated with Bree when we make things together but I really enjoyed making these cookies with the girls and they actually tasted really yummy too!!

Tool Girl Bree

Bree and Tom love to do projects together and poor Bree never has tools that are her size so Tom thought this would make her happy. I never thought I would have a little girl that loved tools like she does, even though I did take shop in Junior High and I was the only girl so this all does not come from Tom! Anyways, I was totally praying that the tool set would look like the cute girl on Extreme Home Makeover in all shades of pink but instead they make kids tools in lovely Rainbow funny right!! Does she not look so cute and ready to make her mom something fabulous! I will update on her first project using her new tools soon!

Cutie Pie Updates

I thought it might be a good idea to journal some of the things that Bree and Sophie have been doing that are sorta milestones in their lives. Maybe just maybe they will be happy one day that I spent time blogging rather than playing hide-and-go-seek at this moment but I highly doubt it since they are both doing a funny Indian dance around me chanting who knows what, but it sounds like "mahmah buh buh lah lah", and I think it means play with us right now! I just know that I will keep putting this off for days and then something else exciting will come along and there goes my memory of the things that they have done in this past week or two.

Bree you are 4 1/2 and so cute and I seriously can not get enough of you, I love this age/stage. You go to school three days a week for 3 1/2 hours and you love every second of it. I have been really lucky because Nana has been picking you up every day on her way home from work and I think that both of you really enjoy being together even if it is a short amount of time. Your dad and I just had your parent teacher conference and we both already knew everything that they told us about you. They said that you are very creative and love to do projects for as long as they will let you. They also said that your attention span is amazing and that it is really rare for 4 year old to be able to focus for as long as you do. You are also a very good cleaner and both your dad and I laughed because we know it is true. We are so lucky to have a child that begs us to clean the house and the cars because if it weren't for you neither of them would get done. You are also learning your last name right now and you are just amazed that mom, dad and Sophie all share the same last name. You have loads of friends, and you are even nice to the boys. I was shocked to hear this because you came home one day and you were telling me that the boys were icky. oh well dad and I were celebrating early and praying that you wouldn't like boys again until you turned thirty. You are also taking dance once a week and you love it so much and it is great to see you twirling on your toes and learning all your ballet positions. You also love to repeat all the bad words that I say and it just sounds so terrible coming out of your mouth. Showers are your new favorite thing and you refuse to take baths anymore which is nice. Reading has become a big deal to you this past month and so we bought some Dr. Sues books and those seemed to be good but then your aunt Stink let us borrow some of these books and you can read them all. It is amazing and I know that most of the words are small it still is shocking to think that soon Dad and I won't be able spell out your Christmas presents with you around. You are very independent and you think that you can do everything and so I let you try and sometimes you can and sometimes you have to ask for help. You also had your first dentist appointment where you did not have a cavity. Your dad and I were doing the happy dance because you saved us a hundred dollars or more!! You love to go to Costco and your favorite restaurant is Wendy's and I am not sure why but it is. I also love it when you love my food you tell me over and over again how much you love it and how much you love me it is the best of both worlds for a mom that sucks in the kitchen:) You tried and tried for days to snap your fingers and you finally were able to. You walked around snapping your fingers for days and you were so excited to show all the kids at school your new talent. You kept coming home from school and telling me that your friends just wanted you to show them how you could snap all day. I get a kick out of you every day and I love my shy little girl.

Sopie bear is in her own little 18 month old world and she is loving every second of it. You follow Bree around every where she goes and you have to do everything that she is doing as well. This means that when mom and Bree are working on reading so are you and it is so funny because you will repeat everything that I say. You love to sing the alphabet and your favorite game right now is ring-around-the-rosie and you sing the song over and over again until we all fall down literally! I was cleaning out the linen closet in your bathroom and I pulled Bree's little potty out and you ripped your diaper off sat on the toilet and went. Both Bree and I were shocked because we weren't expecting anything to be in the toilet but there really was pee in there. I am still in shock because it was so easy. You are not potty trained but you really want to be. One day you wore three pair of Bree's undies aroung the house and somehow smuggled them all the way to Costco to our suprise. You are a little wild so the thought of you having a Big Girl Bed just scared me because that would mean that you could bug me whenever you liked. Tom decided that it was time to atleast try and I seriously was worried but all we did was tell you that this was your big bed and if you got out we would put the bars back on. You have been in your Big Girl bed ever since and you only get out if it takes me more than five minutes to get you out of bed after you take your nap. What a relief that you understand us and that you stay in your bed! You hate sitting in any type of high chair so you have now converted to a bar stool and you think that you are so big. You love Brocolli and chant it when you see me making it ( I serioulsy am so lucky), and you love any type of fruit or veggie which is weird for dad because he gags watching you and Bree eat your veggies and fruits. You are able to say anything and it is really weird because you will name an object that I don't ever remember telling you the name of it. You can say complete sentences and you are able to tell me most things that you need and want. You love to go through all the books and name everything and maybe this means that your big sister and you study or you have a really great memory. You love to jump and skip and wrestle with daddy. You are just barely getting into movies and your favorite is Tinkerbelle all the others you only last 20 minutes. You also enjoy taking showers like Bree so for now our house is free of bath taking. You love Kindermusik and playing with all the other kids, but most important is that you will sit in my lap the majority of the time. You love to pray and you can bless the food and say amen.Sophie you are such a joy in our home and I love how you make us luagh with all your funny words and dances.

Playing in the Snow (Last week)

When we woke up last Monday morning there was snow everywhere and I just could not resist getting the girls out to play and build a snowman!! Sophie loved it so now we have to go buy her snowpants and Bree is a pro at building snowman all by herself. Here are some pictures that I tried to take without Bree throwing snowballs at me. Bree can make a mean snowball so watch out!!

Lake Mead (Back in October 2008)

MUSTACHES Anyone???

See that boat in the background, that is the boat that crashed five minutes after this picture was taken. Weird thing to add is that Tom and Bree were out in the row boat and one of the girls on the boat who obviously was drunk stood up once she saw Tom and Bree and yelled there is a boat over and over again. Then she danced her top almost off for Koby. Scary group of young people:( I am just glad they didn't run into Tom and Bree in this picture.

Better late than never right? I have been so lazy with blogging and just realized that I forgot to blog about Lake Mead. Usually that would not be a big deal, but I plan on using my blog as a journal/scrapbook for my girls and they might enjoy knowing 20 years from now that their parents were semi-cool and took them on these crazy fun trips with loads of crazy fun people!!

The first couple of days down in Mead were chilly but we watched lots of fun movies and played games and jumped in the water(that was as warm as bath water compared to the air temp)and then we would hurry and change into the warm clothes that we brought. The last couple of days the temp went up and we were able to play in the sand and swim, ski, and wake board. My husband, Drew and Koby all decided that it would be funny to have a competition on who could grow the best mustache. It was really funny but the weird thing was when Tom didn't shave his off when we got home. It took funny looks and seeing old friends to actually get him to shave it. Yeah for no hair on the face (It hurts to kiss)!!

1. Bree trying to ski and laughing so hard when both daddy and uncle Sean fell in the water and laughing even harder watching them get back up on the wave runner.
2. Bree crying really hard because she is done trying after being pulled two times (Barbie Laptop was not a good enough bribe for her).
3. Massacre Kevin killing all the fish in the Lake with his spear. Seriously, the boys all swam around with this spear and killed so many fish it was disgusting, but they loved it.
4.Stickum Balls was a fun game that Viper made and brought just for this trip. Lets just say I liked it alot more than horseshoes. Drew winning the Stickum Ball tournament (even though Tom and I forfeited because we had left with my brother on his boat), and then sending Tom to exile island for the night. (Drew didn't end up making Tom and Bree go but it was funny).
5. Tom giving Bree too much water before bed and lets just say that Tom and Bree were soaked one early morning:(
6. Sophie and Ty hanging the entire time, and loving every second of having loads of people to play with.
7. Having neighbors in the little canyon over that blasted their techno music. Those same neighbors also were drunk and literally ran into a mountain and totaled their $60,000 boat. Watching Drew and Celeste tow them in on a wave runner and a guy pulling a gun out while they were there and pointing it at them. Same crazy neighbors were not watching all their stuff and we watched their nice tub float past our camp. They were reckless and I was happy to move camps just to get away from them.
8.Sophie loved to make mommy and Emily hang her over the side of the boat to splash with her feet.
9. Swimming Tom, Bree and Sophie in a little row boat with a rope around my waist all the way to exile island. This ended up being the workout of the trip and it was not easy. We had to do this because of all the amazing food we were eating.
10. Having to drive almost the entire way home with the light on in the car because Sophie would not cry if she could see. Weird right. I think everyone in the cars driving next to us probably thought we were nuts because we also had to repeat the song "Shake It" over and over again to keep Bree happy.
11. Getting home and sleeping next to my husband after 9 days of sleeping with Sophie, and sleeping in my own bed!

Do Kids Really Do This?

Ok So you are all wondering why I would put a picture of this on my blog. First I have to document this story otherwise it will get forgotten and I will be mad that I can't show Sophie what she put us through. Second, this is what my 18 month old Sophie thinks is fun to put up her nose. She decided that the bag my mom gave her needed to be ripped to pieces and pushed as far as it would go up her little nose. Of course she sneezed, Right, and most of the paper came out. We put our little weird child to bed and she cried a couple of times through the night but always went back to sleep so we thought nothing of it. The next day she was draining nasty stuff out of one nostril so I pulled out the handy dandy snot sucking thing and tried to get this huge booger out of her nose (sorry if that is gross). It would not come so I gave up because if any of you have ever tried to suck a nose out, you have to pin down your child with both legs and torture them until they are blue in the face. It is not fun! Anyways, the nasty drainage continued, so I was fed up with this weird thing in her nose and I pulled out my tweezers and pinned her down again and to my surprise it was a green covered pice of paper. Weird right. Well I had Bree as a first child and everyone knows that she is one of those angelic type that did nothing abnormal. So I am starting to think that Sophie might have mental issues!! The story continues when Sophie is still draining out the one nostril a couple of days later and we were leaving the next day to Mead so I called the doctor and they had me come right in. I took the Sophie Bear in and the doctor was laughing and he pulled out all these long sharp tools (they probablly arent sharp but they looked evil) and I stopped him and asked if he would look before he used any of those scary tools. He obliged, and thank heavens her little nose was clear but the wad of paper previously in her nose had irritated it but she would be fine. So then I have to ask is this normal? Oh yes we get a couple of kids a week that put things in their nose's and ears. WHAT!! At least Sophie can be grouped with them in the weird individuals that think it is fun to stick things in their noses and ears!! I think that Sophie will be taking Tom and I on a fun ride and she will continue to shock us with funny things her entire life and I cannot wait. I just really hope that it will never be anything that we can't fix i.e. tattoo of high school boyfriend or something!!

Washington D.C.

So this will be a long post and that is why it has taken me forever to post it. Tom and I went a couple of weeks ago to D.C. and we stayed with my awesome uncle Chad and aunt Sue. We had an extra bonus of having one of my cousins and his wife visiting at the same time due to hurricane Ike. We had so much fun and I think that my feet almost fell off from all the walking that we did. Tom had never been to D.C. so we saw everything and it was really nice weather and the crowds were small because school was back in session. My uncle is in the Air Force and he lives really close so we were able to ride the metro everywhere. Our trip was possible because our friends Drew and Celeste watched Sophie for us, and my sister watched Bree thanks so much! We took the red eye so the first day we were pretty exhausted at the start. My uncle picked us up and took us right to Arlington Cemetery.

This is a Marine funeral which my uncle said is really rare and I think he said that it was his first time watching one with Marines. Marines use white horses and Army uses Black ones.

This is the Army funeral horse I think but the cool thing is the black boot that they have on the saddle to honor the soldier. Oh and this is a lovely pic of me with no shower or sleep for two days!

This is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and it is really neat to watch the Change of the Guard. These guys do this in all conditions year round it’s amazing!

View of D.C. from Arlington Cemetery.

These are Segway’s and I have no idea how Tom was able to get me to do these because let’s just say traffic, bumps, rush hour sidewalk pedestrians, and lovely speeds of up to 30 MPH. So I was scared because they give you like ten minutes to feel comfortable on them but tell you not to step off or it will take off on you, and don’t run into anything because you surely will fall and look stupid. So they send us out into downtown D.C. and it is five o’clock and there are so many people walking and driving on the streets I really did panic. Then I had to cross the street and go up the little sidewalk ramp which is great until you get stuck half way up and don’t know how to make the stupid thing move. Yup so I stepped off because I thought I was going to kill Tom who was behind me. Nothing terrible happened luckily but every stupid slope I would get stuck on until finally the tour guide told me how to do it (That really should have been part of the training). So we rode these around for three hours and it was awesome. We were able to see everything in three hours that would have taken us days to see. We still went back to most of the sites to see them on our feet.

This is a blurry view from the top of the Washington Monument looking at the Lincoln Memorial.

WWII Memorial where we spent a long time because, my Papa served in the Navy in WWII and so we took so many pictures to hopefully give him so he can see it.

Bob Dole was there and both Tom and I really only know him from the Viagra commercials.

Lincoln Memorial.

Jefferson Memorial where we had to run and see and then run to the Metro to see the Nationals Baseball game.Tom actually started jogging with some random people because people are always jogging around D.C. and he finally decided to join them. The guys were so excited and were vvery welcoming!!

This is Tom and I with my uncle Chad and aunt Sue on the front row watching the Mets warm up. We had so much fun and laughed pretty hard when we took turns at the batting cage and all of us could only hit one ball out of all the pitches. You see those nice green hats. Well the first 2o,ooo fans were able to get a free one, and of course we were early because we had to do all the fun stuff before. Well the nice gentleman that was handing out the hats would not give me one. I thought he was joking with me and so I kept laughing but was like seriously dude give me my free hat. He then say’s to me you are not old enough. What? I told him I don’t understand and he told me you have to be 21 to get a free one because Miller Light was the sponsor. I laughed and went over to another guy, and he told me that if his boss would not give me one than he couldn’t. What? So Tom and my family are laughing and trying to tell the guy that I have two children and the big one is that I am 27 years old. Nope that did not work he told us that he did not believe us. So at 27 years old I was carded so that I could get my free hat. The guy looked at my license and handed me my hat and walked away. So I know that I had no makeup left after sweating buckets all day, and my hair was a greasy mess from sweat and humidity but I still think I look older than 21. So funny! We had so much fun regardless of my weird experience and it actually was a pretty good game and my uncle Chad had us play a fun game the entire time so it made the time fly. By the end of that night I was dead tired, and we had to wake up early to get our tickets to the Capitol. We forgot our camera the next day but we mainly saw museums and such and we were both really tired and grumpy so we retired to the house early. Thankfully,my lovely uncle and aunt had some great grub for us when we came back. That night we went with the family to the Pentagon 9/11 memorial which was sad because the first bench I look at is a 9 year old little girl and her brother. It is an amazing memorial, and then we went to the new Air Force Memorial and the new FDR Memorial which were both very neat. At the FDR we walked back to our car and we walked along the Potomac and I think that we said hello to a high price hooker because she was all alone late at night sitting on a bench. Weird!!

Air Force Memorial

Pentagon 9/11 Memorial

FDR Memorial has so many waterfalls its really neat.

So the next day we decided that we really needed some down time, so my Cousin Curt and his wife Julie wanted to go to the Temple and that sounded awesome to us. It is amazing and huge and I already get lost in all the Temples in Utah that I just knew that I would struggle to find my way in this one. Inside is amazing but one thing is different than in Utah, they do not have as many cute little ladies, and men standing in every door way showing you where to go. I made it just fine and it was really nice to be somewhere calm and relaxing. The rest of the day my poor uncle tried to teach me how to play tennis. I think that I might be a lost cause. It was so much fun playing for hours and I promised that the next time I would be better!

On our last day we went down to see the White house and to do a little shopping for our girls.

This is where visitors such as Presidents of other countries and really important people get to stay. Our Segway tour guide told us the funniest story about this place. He says that on one of his tours he had a guy that did maintenance or something on this house and so he told the tour that when these important people stay here and when they use the bathrooms the toilets have a 30 minute storage compartment for that person’s waste. Then they run in and retrieve the waste and do all sorts of tests on these people so that they know who is sick, dying and healthy. Gross but really interesting!!Of course the people that stay there have no idea right, otherwise nobody would stay there:)They also put the flag out of the country visiting to welcome them and when there are no visitors’ there is an American Flag out. When we went over to the other side of the White House we were stopped and had to wait for a long time to walk to the front side. Once we were able to walk in front of the White House we noticed that there was a long line of black Suburbans filing in. Must have been someone really special right? Then we flew home to our wonderful girls!!

The End I told you it was long!!
